All Zenless Zone Zero agents, ranked by how fun they are to play – Destructoid

It’s no news to anyone that Zenless Zone Zero has one of the most charismatic rosters within the Gacha sphere, a feat further emphasized by its meticulous animations and how unique each of its agents feels.

But setting aside the meta, who among the game’s cast can be considered the most fun to take to the field? Here are all Zenless Zone Zero agents, ranked by how fun and rewarding they are to play.

24. Nicole

The leader of the Cunning Hares (aka Gentle House), Nicole has the ability to generate pocket-sized Ether fields that both deal damage and lock enemies in place as the foundation of her kit. Unfortunately, however, her low attack speed and the fact that she can only perform the above through her Special variants and Ultimate make her underwhelming when she is out of her premier role.

23. Grace

Grace, as shown in Zenless Zone Zero.

An agent whose main strength lies in her ability to seemingly chain her Special and EX Special Attacks to quickly build Electric Anomaly, Grace is an agent who thrives in mobility. But even if seeing her turn enemies into lighting rods feels great, the way all of her moves —except for Demolition Blast – Beware— have almost identical animations can easily make you feel like you are in a loop.

22. Soukaku

A great pick for those looking to get out of the meta and have fun with alternative builds in ZZZ, Soukaku pairs a considerably fast moveset with the ability to enhance her attacks and extend her combos by entering her Masket and Frosted Banner states. But don’t get overly excited, as although her combos are great to pull off, there’s a limit to how much excitement an off-the-field support can offer when in the field.

21. Seth Lowell

The game’s best Anomaly A-Rank support, Seth’s ability to turn his riot shield and baton into a Monster Hunter-style Greatsword opens the way for impressive chain combos, most of which can become jaw-dropping if paired with a full Lightning Strike – Electrified sequence. When in his intended role, he also shines bright by being able to dive in like a lightning bolt and bring a welcome change of pace through his EX Especial.

20. Rina

Victoria Housekeeping’s senior member and one of the game’s best Electric supports, Rina‘s high mobility is her biggest draw when in the field, as she is free to move while Drusilla and Anastella wreak havoc. That ability gives birth to one of the game’s most unique playstyles, which allows her to turn the whole field into her Castellet and bring forward a performance that, if paced correctly, will not let you down.

19. Ben

Ben, as shown in Zenless Zone Zero.

A character made for those looking to feel the impact of their hits, Ben is capable of obliterating enemies by performing his signature Special and EX Special counters, which are, for many, the most rewarding abilities in ZZZ. Apart from that, however, he won’t have much to offer, as his “heavier-than-earth” lungers will, on most occasions, leave you open before you can even finish his basic chain.

18. Piper

The definition of might over mass, Piper’s ability to turn into a cyclone mid-combo makes her one of the most refreshing agents in Zenless Zone Zero, as seeing your opponent’s stun gauge quickly go up before dealing a deadly blow with Assault and Disorder never gets old. Although her reliance on her EX Special causes many to label her as a one-note character, I also find her basic attack animations to be among the game’s most unique, as they see her being swung by the weight of her axe more often than not.

17. Anton Ivanov

Anton, as shown in Zenless Zone Zero.

A character that screams Gurren Lagann for all the right reasons, Anton makes up for his low regular attack speed by being able to drill/piledrive targets to dust after entering Burst Mode. Honestly, despite being paired with an overdependence on energy generation, Anton’s ability to shock an enemy to oblivion while you smash your basic attack input feels just as rewarding as it can be destructive for your hands.

16. Billy Kid

Known by many as Zenless Zone Zero‘s Deadpool, but in reality, way more than that, Billy brings to the table a dynamic moveset where well-placed dashes are the norm. As the only gun-wielder in the game capable of thriving in mid to long-distance encounters, Billy can also be seen as the perfect pick for those looking to break away from the on-you-face style favorited by pretty much all other attackers in the game.

15. Lucy

Lucy‘s ability to send fastballs (or fastboars, if you will) toward her targets makes her an extremely rewarding pick for any scenario, even more so if we consider her ability to both chain the above in any combo and use it to trigger Assists at will. As a bonus, picking her also gets you a loyal squad of Guard Boars who will fearlessly charge against even the mightiest bosses, and who could say no to that?

14. Corin

Corin, as shown in Zenless Zone Zero.

An agent perfect for those who love to see numbers on the screen, Corin shines, given her ability to extend most of her regular attacks, as well as both her Special and EX Special to grind enemies to dust. Don’t be fooled, however, as although having a playstyle similar to Anton’s, the way she can trigger her extended moves with almost no interval makes our favorite Chainsaw Maid a completely different beast when compared to our best bro.

13. Koleda

An agent specialized in dealing heavy hits, Koleda‘s timing-focused moveset and ability to blow enemies to smithers by chaining her Special, EX Special, and enhanced finishers can pave the way to some of the most satisfying combos in ZZZ. But although that already makes taking her off the field a harsh ask, her ability to perform devastating finishing moves when paired with Ben will truly make you wish HoYoverse made her a DPS.

12. Nekomata (Nekomiya Mana)

The game’s premier non-Anomaly Physical DPS, Nekomata uses her feline reflexes to perform overwhelming waves of attacks that only grow stronger when paired with both Assault and well-placed Dodge Counters/Quick Assists. Her focus on speed and precision is also further emphasized by her ability to extend her strings with Crimson Balde, which can give birth to gnarly combos as she pounces across the battlefield.

11. Lycaon

Lycaon is an agent who specializes in the use of kick combos to quickly bring his opponents down, a feat he can easily accomplish by mixing his regular and changed basic attacks with his Special and EX Special. When used at the right timing, the latter can also allow him to extend his (and your party’s) combos almost indefinitely by juggling smaller enemies. Believe me, the latter will not get old no matter how many times you do it.

10. Lighter

Lighter showcases why playing as a boxer never gets old by bringing to the ring some of the game’s most unique dodge animations, the ability to perform easy mix-ups through his EX Special variants, and a multi-jab combo sure to leave any enemy stunned. His set also adds to his appeal, as although he shines the most when in short bouts, the champion will honor his title by offering game-changing Fire and Ice DMG boosts.

9. Anby

Anby, the most fun A-Ranker to play in Zenless Zone Zero.
Image via HoYoverse

Another Stun Agent capable of completely outshining many DPSs, Anby’s ability to alter between regular and enhanced attacks at any time makes her one of the most intuitive agents in ZZZ. The way every single one of her moves opens the way to a mixup, and her high overall speed also allows her to be one of the only picks in the game whose gameplay will stay engaging no matter the enemy, team, or how much time has passed.

8. Soldier 11

Soldier 11, as shown in Zenless Zone Zero.

ZZZ‘s sole fire attacker, Soldier 11, is focused on efficiency. But that does not mean she is bland in any way, as her ability to bring forward her own take on Fire Breathing by pressing the basic attack input at the right time or performing her EX Special, Chain Attack, and Ultimate adds a much-needed technical aspect to her playstyle. The way fire is shown in-game also helps her shine as one of the most visually stunning agents in the game.

7. Qingyi

Qingyi, as shown in Zenless Zone Zero.

As all her mains know, Qingyi’s ability to perform 100th-hit combos more than secured her a high spot on our list. No, you did not read that wrong, as apart from being able to mix her regular attacks with continuous lounges with Enchanted Moonlit Blossoms, her ability to perform a series of lightning-fast strikes by holding her basic attack allows Qingyi to perform long combos that, although not practical in the long run, will never cease to amaze.

6. Jane Doe

Jane Doe, as shown in Zenless Zone Zero.

An agent who pairs her extreme mobility with an unpredictable moveset, Jane Doe is capable of bringing forward some of the craziest but most addicting combos in ZZZ, many of which will find their end in a devastating Aerial Sweep. If the above was not enough for you, the way she can Crit on Assault allows Jane to stay true to her title as a Femme Fatale and generate some of the most rewarding reactions in the game.

5. Burnice White

Burnice, as shown in Zenless Zone Zero.

Everyone’s favorite bartender/flame-loving pyrotechnician, Burnice’s acrobatic moveset and ability to set the battlefield ablaze without any regard for safety make her one of the most satisfying agents to pick up in Zenless Zone Zero. She can also be seen as the perfect pick for those looking to unwind, as simply performing her Mixed Flame Blend enhanced basic attack will be more than enough to light up the sky and turn most in your path into ashes.

4. Zhu Yuan

Zhu Yuan, as shown in Zenless Zone Zero.

Nothing feels better than blasting your opponents to oblivion, and no character demonstrates that like Zhu Yuan, who can both bring a nuke to a gunfight with her Ultimate and send off devastating sequences of Enhanced Shotshells while in Assault Mode. Just keep in mind that using her will demand a lot of spatial awareness, as she will need to stay in movement to bring out her true potential.

3. Caesar King

Caesar, as shown in Zenless Zone Zero.

Featuring what I can only call a Nitro-Fuelled version of Ben’s playstyle, Caesar’s ability to parry and block at will makes her one of the game’s most intuitive and rewarding agents. But that’s not all she has in her arsenal, as her fast attack speed, party-wide shield, and high damage will also guarantee that you will get a healthy dose of adrenaline no matter the fight. You don’t believe me? Just try putting her against Ionized – Doppelganger – Jane.

2. Ellen Joe

Ellen Joe, as shown in Zenless Zone Zero.

Everyone’s favorite Shark-Maid, Ellen, pairs some of the best-looking combos in ZZZ with the ability to run across the battlefield at high speed by entering her Roaming state, a practice that never gets old. If that was not enough, her ability to mix her Arctic Ambush charged attack with her Special, EX Special, and its Sharknami follow-up will allow you to always start with a bang and, in many cases, bring an end to entire enemy groups after a single string.

1. Tsukishiro Yanagi

Yanagi, the most fun agent to play in Zenless Zone Zero.
Image via HoYoverse

My absolute favorite among the current cast, Yanagi, is the ultimate personification of high-speed combat, as she pairs her fast moveset with the unique ability to up the stakes by switching stances mid-combo. To add to that, even if we exclude her ability to trigger a unique Disorder variant on her own, the way she can restart any combo by performing Gekka Rutten will also provide you with the opportunity to bring forward some of the most rewarding and eye-catching chains in Zenless Zone Zero.
