Space Marine 2 – Destructoid

The patch notes for Warhammer 40K: Space Marine 2‘s latest patch, Hotfix 2.1, have revealed that developer Saber Interactive is working on some of the game’s most-requested features. These additions will arrive in a larger update later in 2024.

Warhammer 40K: Space Marine 2 Hotfix 2.1 provides a series of fixes for bugs and potential crashes that were the source of a few gripes with players. Beneath the patch notes for this Hotfix is a selection of features Saber Interactive is aiming to bring to the title in a future update, including ultrawide monitor support, a sparring arena in the Battle Barge, and private PvE lobbies.

Praise the Emperor for ultrawide support

I have been thoroughly enjoying Warhammer 40K: Space Marine 2 on PS5 without any real issues outside of the infinite loading screen error. However, some fans have clearly been making their requests known to the game’s developer because we now have three highly-requested features on the way.

Ultrawide monitor support is one of the things I’ve seen talked about most on the Space Marine subreddit. I completely understand the desire to have it because the environments in the game are gorgeous. Being able to see more as you stomp through the campaign, Operations, or battle it out in Eternal War, would be glorious.

While I don’t mind random lobbies for Operations mode, the PvE multiplayer mode, I can see why others would want it. A sparring arena in the Battle Barge, though, that feature took me by surprise. I think being able to duke it out with other players in a safe environment would make the transition from the campaign to PvP much easier, so I’m hopeful that’s what it achieves when it’s added.

Hotfix 2.1 includes fixes for a crash that could halt you right as you start the game, a rare crash that could stop the game in the opening cutscene, and a few rare bugs that could soft-lock players during the campaign. It also optimizes CPU performance on PC to make the game run better on high-end rigs. Even on PS5, I’ve noticed a little stuttering. So, hopefully, now the developer is in the woods on this sort of fix, console players will see improvements in the future.

There’s still so much that Saber Interactive has planned for Warhammer 40K: Space Marine 2. With 2 million copies sold mere days after its official launch, the future looks bright for the game, especially with features like these high on the update priority list.
