World Machine Edition has a date with Steam this month – Destructoid

Developer Future Cat Games is currently working on gardening-themed mystery Margin of the Strange, but there’s now another way to experience their previous title. The expanded OneShot: World Machine Edition has lined up a September 30, 2024 debut on Steam.

Following a few years after the original OneShot‘s PC launch back in 2016, World Machine Edition made its way to PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch in September 2022. It’s not just a simple re-release with enhancements. World Machine Edition was rebuilt for consoles and portables from the ground up, complete with a new engine and new user interface.

There are also new hidden collectibles scattered throughout the world, which challenges players with puzzles that require working between two realities. Other updated features include a “Friends” character profile gallery — as well as one full of cutscene art — guest artist wallpapers, a music box, and full controller support.

The setup of OneShot is simple enough. You’re a child exploring a strange new world in an attempt to restore a sun that’s been dead for a long time. It is, in fact, a big ol’ light bulb. Doing so involves a lot of fourth-wall-breaking actions, like messing around with the computer’s operating system outside of the game. Throughout the journey, you as the player end up developing an interesting relationship of your own with protagonist Niko.

If you plan on going portable with this one, OneShot now fully supports Steam Deck. The original OneShot was a really cool mix of puzzling and adventuring with a memorable aesthetic and some solid jams. That the updated version essentially introduced more stuff to an already fun game is reason enough to give this one a spin when it hits Steam later this month.
